Almost a day ago, a partnership proposal was posted on the official Free TON forum by Cointelegraph, one of the largest media platforms dedicated to blockchain and cryptocurrencies. In this post you will find the details of the terms of this offer and the community’s response to it.
So the proposal was posted here 22 hours ago. The first part of its structure contains a brief description of the platform and its main indicators: daily publication of 25+ articles, 6+ million website visitors and 10+ million article views monthly, 125 000+ mobile app users, 10 available languages for the website interface, etc. Then the main formats published articles are enumerated: blockchain and cryptocurrency news, analytical articles, interviews and so on – everything is just like on other similar sources. Finally, this section terminates with a presentation of CT Studio, an independent department at Cointelegraph that basically serves as an in-house branding agency.
The next section of the proposal covers the proposed partnership conditions. Cointelegraph proposes to develop a full-fledged advertising campaign for the community, within which the multi-million audience of the website will be able to get acquainted with the advantages of Free TON: for example, learn about its history or to find out how decentralized it is. The campaign also involves “calls to action,” that is, to join the ecosystem. Cointelegraph also revealed a 12-month cooperation plan, which can be found here.
Now let’s move on to payment. Attention, the numbers can be shocking! Cointelegraph has requested 7 million TON Crystal tokens for cooperation in four equal tranches of 1.75 million each. Impressive, isn’t it?
Community representatives reacted to this news quite ambiguously. Almost all commentators admit that cooperation with such a huge media platform can bring significant benefits to the project and attract the audience, but the requested amount is way too high. Does this mean that Cointelegraph estimates TON Crystal and Free TON in general very low, if it needs such a large sum?
Mitja Goroshevsky, one of the TON Labs co-founders, drew attention to the following: Cointelegraph talks about an advertising campaign, but Free TON is not a corporate product, and advertising isn’t needed here, moreover, it does not correspond to the values of the project. What we need is something else: coverage of the news of the platform and an explanation of its features, so that people can understand the essence of the community, and only after that make their own decision to join it or not.
The user under the nickname itakura1 asked reasonable clarifying questions about the proposed campaign: how many articles will be published within it, what place on the website will be occupied by the branded Free TON page, who will be responsible for the production of videos for the YouTube channel, etc. And indeed, the proposal clearly lacks specifics.
To sum up, the general tone of the comments on this proposal is very skeptical, and it is highly unlikely that it will be adopted in the form in which it currently exists. We will monitor its status and keep you updated 🙂
