Application period: December 25, 2020, to January 15, 2021.

The reason for the contest was an article published by a group of professors and researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard, titled “Moving from bad to worse: from Internet voting to blockchain voting.”

In the article, the authors criticized the idea of blockchain voting, citing facts against it, but did not offer an alternative. You can familiarize yourself with the excerpts from the article at the link, as well as read the terms of the contest.

The authors of the contest invited participants to write an essay in which it will be necessary to refute a number of statements. At the second stage, participants need to offer a voting solution based on blockchain technology.

Participants will also receive additional points if they solve one or more problems in their proposal that were presented in an article developed by a group of professors and researchers at MIT and Harvard. The list can be found at the link provided above.

Criteria for evaluation:

Convincingly solve all the designated tasks – 20% of the point;

Professional language and writing ethics, including references to any quotes used – 10% to the score;

The depth and quality of thinking behind decisions – 20%;

The possibility of implementation within a reasonable time frame and at reasonable costs – 40%;

The estimated cost of implementing such a presentation by the Free TON community is 10%.

Awards:

1st place ………………………….. 20,000 TONs

2nd place …………………………. 15,000 TONs

3rd place ………………………….. 10,000 TONs

4th place …………………………… 7,000 TONs

5th place …………………………… 6,000 TONs

6th-20th place …………………… 2,500 TONs

Each participant has the right to submit several works if they all differ from each other.

In my opinion, the contest can help to promote Free TON, as the response to such institutions will create a reason for discussion. If the applications are good enough, it is possible that the same group of researchers will react to it, which will certainly attract users’ interest in the Free TON project. The voting system itself using blockchain technology will be equally valuable. I think this kind of contest will be interesting for the project participants.
