So, we have already told you about who TON Labs are, what they do and why their work is so important. Now it’s time to get to know them better – this is the first post in the “Meet the founders of TON Labs” series, due to which you will learn about the founders of the company, their experience and vision of the concept and of the future of Free TON.You’re welcome to read it!
TON Labs is a team consisting of more than 60 developers and engineers who aim to develop the Free TON ecosystem. The company previously worked on the development of the Telegram Open Network (TON) with Pavel and Nikolai Durov, but they were forced to close the project in May 2020 due to the obstacles created by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
One of the founders and managing partners of TON Labs, about whom we will talk today, is Alexander Filatov. Alexander is a professional with over 25 years of experience in the field of top management and private entrepreneurship. His career began in 1994 in the marketing department of the international FMCG company Procter & Gamble, where he worked for a total of 5 years. At the same time, in 1994-1995, he served as president of the division of the international non-profit organization AIESEC on the basis of MAI (Moscow Aviation Institute), and since 1999 he started investing in Internet startups. In 2000, Alexander was transferred to the Swiss office of P&G as the head of one of the divisions, and after 2 years of work he was promoted to the position of The Associate Marketing Director. Under his leadership, the business that was entrusted to him has gained significantly size and profitability.
In 2004, Alexander got his Executive MBA from Lausanne Business School, showing the best academic performance during the existence of the school. After returning to Russia, he got the position of the Vice President for Strategy and Business Development at the Kaskol holding, one of his projects at this job was the elaboration of a development plan for Sheremetyevo Airport up to the year 2020. In 2005, he accepted the position of the Director for Strategy and Business Development at JSC Russian Machines, and 5 years later he became the General Director of the company. Since 2012, he is the leader at “RM-Terex”. At the same time, he was a member of the Board of Directors of several companies, and also a member of a number of Russian and international associations (and he still is).
In 2014, Mr. Filatov became the head of Arkley Capital, and in 2016 he changed the field to private entrepreneurship, founding the Industry 4.0 fund, which invests in technologies of the 4th industrial revolution: big data, blockchain, virtual reality. From 2017 to the present day, his main project is Free TON (created on the basis of the Telegram Open Network, which he had been developing together with the TON Labs team until May 2020). According to him, what makes Free TON even more unique is the fact that the team has invested resources in the development of not only the platform itself, but also the operating system that coordinates users and developers. It is characterized by an advanced front-end and contains many developer tools aimed at optimizing the development itself, that is, at simplifying it and reducing the costs. The goal of the project at this stage is to organically achieve 1 billion users.
In an interview with hackermoon, Alexander revealed his personal motivation for creating TON Labs and Free TON: 5 years ago, after graduating from the Singularity University in the United States, he came to the realization that modern technologies are deadlocked due to centralization. In 1994, the Internet was much more decentralized than it is now – and this worries many people. Free TON is being developed to address this problem.
This post comes to an end, but there is still a lot of interesting things ahead 🙂 Very soon you will be able to learn about other founders of TON Labs.
